Physiotherapy & Specialised therapies

What is the myofascial trigger point therapy?

Myofascial trigger point therapy is a targeted treatment method for pain caused by muscular hardening - so-called trigger points. These palpable knots in a tense muscle cord can cause localised pain or radiate to other parts of the body (referred pain). They are often caused by overloading, poor posture or stress.

With techniques such as trigger point massage or the Dry needling the trigger point is specifically released, blood circulation is stimulated and mobility is improved. The method is part of modern physiotherapy and is suitable for both pain treatment and prevention.

How do trigger points develop?

Trigger points are often caused by a combination of different factors:

  • Overloading or overstretching of muscles
  • Poor posture in everyday life or at work
  • Lack of exercise and prolonged sitting
  • Stress and mental tension
  • Muscle injuries or traumatic effects

An active trigger point can cause pain - when moving, at rest or under pressure. The affected muscle areas are less well supplied with blood, react sensitively and can affect the entire muscle chain.
