What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a targeted method for treating muscle tension and trigger points. In contrast to classic massages, it works deep in the tissue and loosens even stubborn hardening.
A fine acupuncture needle is inserted directly into the affected muscle to relieve tension, promote blood circulation and alleviate pain. The treatment is carried out exclusively by specially trained physiotherapists and is ideal for chronic complaints, sports injuries or restricted movement.

- Check supplementary insurance: Check with your health insurance company whether dry needling is covered as part of physiotherapy and what conditions apply.
- Doctor's prescription (if required): If you have a prescription for physiotherapy, dry needling can be covered by basic insurance. Without a prescription, reimbursement may be possible via supplementary insurance.
- Submit invoice: After the treatment, you will receive a detailed invoice that you can easily submit to your health insurance company.

Dry needling treatment procedure
Dry needling therapy at PhysioART follows a structured procedure that is individually tailored to your complaints:
- Personal preliminary talk:
You tell us about your symptoms and we will clarify whether dry needling is the right therapy for you. - Examination of the pain points:
The physiotherapist will specifically palpate your muscles to identify hardened trigger points. - Targeted treatment with needles:
A fine, sterile acupuncture needle is inserted directly into the affected muscle. This triggers a brief twitching reaction, which reduces tension and improves blood circulation. - Debriefing and recommendations:
We will give you tips for self-treatment, e.g. stretching exercises or adjustments in everyday life, to support the success of the therapy.
Prices for the Dry needling therapy
Dry needling can be covered by your basic health insurance if prescribed by a doctor as part of physiotherapy. The following rates apply without a prescription:
- 25 minutes: 80 CHF
- 55 minutes: 160 CHF

Häufig gestellte Fragen zum Dry Needling
Beim Dry Needling werden sogenannte myofasziale Triggerpunkte (lokale Muskelverhärtungen) mit einer sehr dünnen, sterilen Akupunkturnadel direkt behandelt. Im Gegensatz zur Akupunktur geht es hierbei nicht um Energiebahnen, sondern um die mechanische Lösung von muskulären Verspannungen. Dies verbessert die Durchblutung und lindert Schmerzen oft schon nach der ersten Sitzung.
Der Einstich der dünnen Nadel ist kaum spürbar. Wenn die Nadel den Triggerpunkt trifft, kommt es zu einer kurzen „Local Twitch Response“ (einer lokalen Zuckungsantwort des Muskels). Dies kann als kurzer, dumpfer Schmerz oder Druck empfunden werden, wird aber von den meisten Patienten als befreiend wahrgenommen, da sich die Verspannung unmittelbar löst.
Die Häufigkeit der Behandlung hängt von der Chronizität und der Art Ihrer Beschwerden ab. Oft erreichen wir bereits nach 3 bis 5 Sitzungen eine signifikante und nachhaltige Schmerzlinderung. In akuten Fällen können auch weniger Behandlungen ausreichen.
Ja, wenn das Dry Needling im Rahmen einer ärztlich verordneten Physiotherapie durchgeführt wird, übernehmen die Schweizer Krankenkassen die Kosten über die Grundversicherung (abzüglich Franchise und Selbstbehalt). Unsere Therapeuten bei PhysioArt sind entsprechend zertifiziert.
Dry Needling ist eine sehr sichere Methode. Gelegentlich kann es an der Einstichstelle zu einem leichten Muskelkater-Gefühl oder einem kleinen blauen Fleck kommen, der nach 1–2 Tagen wieder verschwindet. Wir empfehlen nach der Behandlung viel Wasser zu trinken und leichte Bewegung.
Obwohl beide Methoden ähnliche Nadeln verwenden, unterscheiden sich die Ansätze: Akupunktur basiert auf der Traditionellen Chinesischen Medizin (TCM) und zielt auf Meridiane ab. Dry Needling ist eine rein medizinisch-anatomische Methode der Schulmedizin zur gezielten Behandlung von muskulären Schmerzpunkten.
