What is the Sports massage?

Sports massage is a specific development of classical massage that specifically addresses the needs of physically active people. It uses vigorous strokes and complementary techniques such as stretches or trigger point treatments to release deep-seated tension in the stressed muscles.

In doing so, we distinguish between the preparatory massage for pre-competition activation and the regenerative massage for relaxation afterwards. The aim is to maximise blood flow, improve tissue elasticity and effectively prevent overuse injuries.

Wonderfully friendly and highly competent physiotherapy in Basel in the Wettstein quarter. The jaw physiotherapy is also highly recommended. I feel very comfortable here and am looked after professionally.

I had an acute back problem and managed to get some last-minute appointments with Pascal. Although he hardly had any free slots at first, he even gave up his lunch break to help me. I really appreciated that. He was able to help me a lot, and thanks to the exercises, my back has been significantly better ever since. Highly recommended.

Found the therapist to be very obliging, sociable, competent and approachable. Was satisfied... got to know my body better and received tips for further exercises at home.

How to get back to your everyday life

At the beginning of each therapy session, we have a short chat to understand your symptoms and needs. Based on this, we will see whether sports massage is the right treatment for you.

  1. Analysis of your training goals
We discuss your current workload, upcoming competitions or existing complaints in order to tailor the massage precisely to your areas of strain.
  2. Intensive, functional treatment
With firm grips, kneadings and, if necessary, mobilisation techniques, we work on your muscles. We concentrate on those areas that are most heavily taxed in your sport.
  3. Optimisation and advice
After the massage, we will give you tips on recovery, self-mobilisation or how to adjust your workload so that you stay injury-free in the long term.

Assumption of costs the health insurance company

    1. Check supplementary insurance: Sports massage is partially covered by most Swiss health insurance funds as part of «Classical Massage» under complementary insurance (VVG).
    2. Basic insurance (physiotherapy): If the massage is part of a medically prescribed course of physiotherapy, it is billed through the basic insurance.
    3. Submit invoice: After the treatment, you will receive a detailed invoice that you can easily submit to your health insurance company.

Do you have any questions about cost coverage? We will be happy to advise you!

Frequently asked questions about sports massage

That depends on your goal. For recovery, ideally 24 to 48 hours after an intense session. Before a competition, a loosening massage is recommended about 2–3 days prior.

As we go deeper into the tissue and work on hardened trigger points, it can be more intensely localised. However, we communicate closely with you to manage the intensity optimally.

It can support the healing process and relieve stiffness, but should be carried out very gently in cases of severe, acute muscle soreness (micro-trauma).

By no means. Anyone who exercises regularly, from the occasional jogger to the ambitious cyclist, benefits from the deep-tissue techniques of sports massage.

During intensive training phases, we recommend 1-2 sessions per month for prevention. For acute problems, 2-3 appointments at shorter intervals are usually advisable.

Bring your prescription and health insurance card with you if required. We provide all the necessary materials for the treatment itself.

As a rule, we can also make appointments at short notice. It is best to book this directly via our online calendar https://physio-art-basel.ch/termin-online-reservieren/ or contact us personally +41 061 692 08 08and we will find a suitable solution.

Yes, please inform us at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to keep the appointment. Failure to do so may result in cancellation costs.

Prices for the Sports massage

Treatment on medical prescription is billed via the basic insurance. The following tariffs apply for self-payers or via supplementary insurance:

  • 25 minutes: 80 CHF
  • 55 minutes: 160 CHF

We will be happy to advise you if you have any questions about the assumption of costs by your health insurance company or how to book an appointment!
